Our team

About us

The research activities of our laboratory focus on the neurobiological foundations of language skills in typical and atypical development. We are particularly interested in the mechanisms of acquiring reading and writing skills in children under both typical and atypical conditions. Our research includes characterizing predictors of developmental disorders, especially language-related learning difficulties, and testing various evidence-based interventions.

Additionally, we strive to discover a universal brain organization for spoken and written language, regardless of orthography (by comparing orthographies that differ in the transparency of phonemes and graphemes) or sensory modality (by comparing visual reading in sighted individuals and tactile reading in blind individuals). We also seek to understand the long-term consequences of late language emergence in children at both behavioral and neuronal levels.

Another line of research pertains to the relationship between consciousness/self-awareness and language. The aim of our studies is to investigate whether the processing of verbal information (both conscious and unconscious, compared to non-verbal information) is prioritized when such information is relevant to the self.
